Black Friday doesn’t officially arrive until Friday November 26, but Virgin Media is kickstarting its blockbuster sales a little early. And whether you’re looking to upgrade your download speeds or cut the costs of your monthly bills, Virgin Media has got you covered. The company has slashed prices across its broadband line-up – with savings up to £342 up for grabs. You can find some of the best discounts below.
For our money, the best deal available is Virgin Media’s M200 plan, which has dropped from £50 a month down to £31 a month. That discounted price will be valid for the entirety of your 18-month contract – saving you more than £340 compared to the pre-Black Friday prices. M200 offers average download speeds of around 213Mbps, which is roughly 3x faster than the average UK home broadband speed, which sits at 70Mbps.
If you live with a few people who all link to stream boxsets and music, make video calls, download software updates and games, or back up their photos or data to the cloud, you’ll need the sort of speeds available with M200 to ensure you’re never confronted with a buffering icon.
For context, Netflix recommends around 25Mbps to stream its content in 4K Ultra HD. So, if you want to watch Squid Game in the living room, while somebody else upstairs catches up with Sex Education or Midnight Mass – that’s already a bandwidth of 50Mbps needed. And that’s before you count any WhatsApp texts or pictures being sent, software updates taking place, or smart speakers and Wi-Fi connected devices quietly working in the background while you’re watching.
Virgin Media recommends those with fewer than 10 devices look at its M100 bundle, which unlocks download speeds of around 108Mbps. That’s still quicker than the UK average (70Mbps) and is more than fast enough to stream from Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video in the highest quality available without a hiccup.
If you’re looking for some of the fastest broadband speeds available in the UK right now, Virgin Media’s M500 plan is a great option. With average download speeds of around 516Mbps – that’s around 7x speedier than the average nationwide. At those speeds, you’ll be able to download a feature-length film in High Definition from iTunes in around 90 seconds. Needless to say, you’ll never have to worry about buffering when it comes to smaller files, like radio stations, songs, and more.
