Nintendo Switch owners have been warned that they may have issues creating a new Nintendo Account this weekend. If you got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas you may have trouble creating a Nintendo Account on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. In the run-up to Christmas the House of Mario warned anyone looking to create a Nintendo Account on the weekend of December 25 and 26 may run into some technical difficulties.
The warning was issued by the official Japanese Nintendo Support account ahead of a potential server overload for the Christmas 2021 weekend.
As reported by KnowTechie, the Japanese Nintendo Support Twitter wrote: “This weekend, access will be concentrated on the Nintendo Account server, and it is expected that Nintendo Account will not be created immediately. If you are planning to use the Nintendo Switch family for the first time, we recommend that you create it in advance.”
To make sure new Nintendo Switch owners won’t be missing out on any features – such as accessing the Nintendo eShop – Nintendo has advised people to create new Nintendo Accounts ahead of Christmas.
A Nintendo Account is also used for the My Nintendo Rewards scheme, which awards you gold coins with physical games purchases which then can be used to get money off digital purchases.
To create a Nintendo Account, you will need to set up a nickname, enter in an email address, password, your date of birth, gender, country/region and the time zone you’re in.
Once you create a Nintendo Account you’ll be able to take advantage of some of the money saving deals running in the Nintendo eShop festive sale.
This promotion runs until December 30, so even if you can’t access the Nintendo eShop this weekend all is not lost.
