Google has dropped a surprise reveal at its big IO 2022 event today, unveiling this year’s flagship Android phone – the Pixel 7 – for the very first time. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are launching this autumn, and ahead of the big release date Google has showcased the first ever pictures of the handsets and revealed some tantalising early details. Upon first glance, there’s one thing that existing Pixel users will notice on the Pixel 7 range – the distinct horizontal rear camera bump that first made an appearance on Google’s Pixel 6 devices is once again making a comeback.
From the early images, it looks like the Pixel 7 Pro will come with a triple rear camera set-up while the Pixel 7 will have a dual camera set-up.
Google has also revealed the colour schemes the new handsets will come in – the Pixel 7 will be available in Obsidian, Snow, Lemongrass while the Pixel 7 Pro has Obsidian, Snow and Hazel colour schemes.
The Pixel 7 phones, which will be powered by the next generation of Google’s Tensor chips, will launch this fall alongside the long-awaited Pixel Watch which also was revealed at Google IO 2022 today.
The first ever smartwatch made by Google boasts a dazzling bezel-less design and features a classic circular watch face.
The Pixel Watch comes with intergrated Fitbit features such as sleep monitoring and the ability to track personal fitness goals.
This long-awaited announcement – which fans had been expecting for years – wasn’t the only big hardware news to come out of IO 2022.
Besides the Pixel Watch and Pixel 7, Google also revealed the Pixel 6a, the Pixel Buds Pro and gave a glimpse at its new Pixel Tablet.
The Pixel 7 range will be the first handsets to come with Android 13 loaded straight out of the box.
And one of the big selling points of Android 13 will be how Google users will be able to seamlessly work across multiple devices.
The new Google made OS will support fast pairing between devices – like the Pixel 7 and Pixel Buds Pro – while Android 13 will also allow Google users to easily move between tasks on multiple devices, such as copying an image on one device and then pasting it onto a document on another.
Speaking about the new hardware unveiled at Google IO today, the Made By Google Twitter said: “Tailored to you, one ‘Hey Google’ at a time.
“Our evolved Pixel portfolio is a holistic approach to hardware that’s built around you—with features, styles, and pricing tiers that make sense for your life.”
While speaking about the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, the Google website added: “With the next-gen Google Tensor processor, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will bring even more helpful, personalised features to photos, videos, security, and speech recognition”.
